What is an avocado tree?

A generous evergreen that becomes part of the household

An avocado tree is a broad-leaved evergreen that grows steadily for years, holding its glossy canopy through the seasons. Given light, drainage and a little attention, it settles happily into a pot on a terrace or a corner of a garden.

What people rarely expect is how quickly it becomes a fixture — the tree you check on with morning tea, the one the children measure themselves against, the one that eventually hands you something to eat. It is not decoration. It is a living thing with a history on somebody's farm.

Benefits

Why a family keeps an avocado tree at home

Practical reasons, honestly put — no health claims, just what living with a tree is actually like.

Fresh avocados at home

As your tree matures, fruit comes from your own terrace or garden instead of a supermarket shelf.

Real greenery in your space

A broad-leaved evergreen adds shade, texture and life to a balcony, courtyard or patio.

A family connection to nature

Watering, measuring, watching the first flush of leaves — a shared routine children genuinely enjoy.

Direct support for farmers

Your rental pays a named partner farm for the years of growing that came before delivery.

Low-effort ownership

The hard growing years happen on the farm. You receive a settled tree and simple, seasonal guidance.

No land required

Most of our trees arrive potted and thrive in a well-lit corner of an ordinary home.

How they are grown

Years of patient farm work before a tree ever reaches a home

A tree begins as a graft or seedling on a partner farm and spends its first years in the ground, building roots. Farmers feed the soil with compost and mulch, water on a measured schedule, prune for shape and shelter young trees from harsh sun and wind.

  • Compost and mulch to build living soil
  • Measured, mostly drip irrigation
  • Seasonal pruning for a strong frame
  • Shade and wind protection when young
Our farmer network

You are renting from a farm, not a warehouse

Every tree we list is already growing on a partner plot. When you rent, that farmer is paid for the years of work behind it — and, where they agree, we introduce you by name.

Ramesh Patil

Western hill slopes · 22 years growing

A tree that leaves my farm carries my name with it. I would rather send one strong tree than five that struggle.

Compost-led soil building, mulched rows, drip irrigation on a measured schedule.

River valley plots · 14 years growing

People ask me what I add to the soil. Mostly I add patience — and whatever the farm itself gives back.

On-farm compost and green manure, intercropped rows, no synthetic weedicides.

When a family sends me a photo of the tree on their terrace, that is the part of this work I did not expect to love.

Growing practices

Organic methods and natural farming, described honestly

Our partner farms grow with organic methods and natural farming practices. We describe what they do rather than attach a certification label we cannot verify for every plot.

Soil health

On-farm compost, green manure and mulched rows keep the soil biologically active and able to hold moisture.

Responsible watering

Drip lines and measured schedules rather than flooding, with rainwater harvesting where the plot allows.

Sustainable cultivation

Intercropping, hand weeding and no synthetic weedicides on the plots our trees come from.

Slow, natural growth

Trees grow at their own pace. A tree that needs another season gets another season.

We will never describe a tree as “100% organic” or claim certifications we do not hold, and we make no health or medical claims. If you want to know exactly how your tree was raised, ask us and we will check with the farm.

Varieties

Avocado varieties available from our farms

Availability rotates by season and region. Confirm current stock with us before choosing — we only promise what is actually growing.

Hass

The everyday favourite

Pebbly skin that darkens as it ripens, with dense, nutty flesh. Reliable in warm climates and the variety most home growers recognise.

Typically fruits mid-season

Fuerte

Smooth-skinned classic

Thin green skin and a mild, creamy taste. Handles cooler nights better than most, which suits hill and inland plots.

Typically fruits early season

Pinkerton

Long-necked and generous

Small seed, thick flesh and a gentle flavour. A compact grower that farmers like for closer plantings.

Typically fruits early to mid-season

Reed

Round and buttery

Large, near-spherical fruit with a rich texture. Upright habit makes it comfortable in a courtyard or terrace pot.

Typically fruits late season

Bacon

The cool-weather grower

Lighter, less oily flesh and a tolerant nature. Often chosen for plots that see cooler spells.

Typically fruits early season

Zutano

The dependable pollinator

Glossy pear-shaped fruit with a lighter taste. Frequently paired alongside other varieties to help fruit set.

Typically fruits early season

How our rental service works

Five steps from the grove to your doorstep

No mystery middlemen. Each step has a person behind it — the farmer, our coordination desk, and you.

  1. 1

    Choose Your Avocado Tree

Browse available trees and rental plans.

Start with the varieties currently available from our partner farms and the rental plan that fits your space. Every listing shows the approximate age of the tree, the growing region and what the plan includes.

  2. 2

Farmer Grows & Cares for the Tree

Partner farmers grow and maintain the tree using natural methods.

Your tree is raised on a partner farm with attention to soil health, responsible watering and sustainable cultivation. Nothing is rushed — a tree leaves the farm only when the farmer considers it strong enough to travel.

  3. 3

    Book Your Tree Online

Select a plan and share your delivery details.

Pick your plan, tell us where the tree is going and when suits you. We confirm availability with the farm before anything is finalised, so you are never promised a tree that does not exist.

  4. 4

    Direct Farm-to-Home Delivery

We coordinate with the farmer and deliver to your home.

The tree is prepared, secured and moved from the farm to your door with as few handovers as possible. You get a delivery window, and on arrival we help you find the right spot for light and drainage.

  5. 5

    Enjoy Your Avocado Tree

Receive ongoing care information and support.

After delivery you receive a care guide, seasonal reminders and a way to reach us with questions. The relationship with your tree — and the farmer who raised it — carries on through the rental term.

Farm-to-home delivery

How your tree actually gets to you

We plan the route with the farm so the tree spends as little time in transit as possible, with a delivery window you agree to in advance.

Prepared at the farm

The farmer waters, wraps the root ball and protects the canopy the day before dispatch.

Fewest possible handovers

Direct transport where we can, with the tree upright and secured rather than boxed and stacked.

Placed, not dropped

On arrival we help you choose a spot for light and drainage and talk through the first fortnight.

Why rent

Why renting makes more sense than buying a mystery sapling

No land needed

A terrace or balcony with good light is enough. The farm did the difficult early years.

A real tree, not a box

This is not a subscription of trinkets. One living tree arrives, and it stays.

Farmers keep earning

Rentals turn a one-off sale into ongoing income for the plot that raised your tree.

Support if it struggles

You are not alone with a sick plant. Replacement windows and real advice are part of the plan.
